Bukhara (R)

Bukhara has been my favorite city in Central Asia, and among my favorites of traveling in general.  Not only is the history and architecture there, but the people have been amazing my entire time here.

My first day, stumbling around a neighborhood trying to find the city walls based on an inaccurate map, a family finally helped me out and sent the son to lead me to the road where the walls were.

City Walls at dusk.

Most of my days started with a sight-based itinerary in mind, and got side-tracked shortly into the process of exploring the city.  First, today, a few pictures from walking around without getting sidetracked.

The Spring of Job. According to legend, Job opened this spring by striking the ground (quite hard, I’d imagine) with his staff.
Bukhara’s Muslim cemetery, seen from the top of a rickety Soviet watertower.
Artisans abound, selling all manner of artwork and assorted trinkets.
Just outside of town, a giant Mausoleum and surrounding cemetery.

Over the next few days: weddings, stories, music, and video evidence.
