Colin Farrell would have you believe that Bruges is a joyless place where happiness and hitmen go to die. I’m willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but if Colin Farrell really believes this he must be a hack.
Speaking of hacks, I have a terrible journalistic sense and wasn’t listening at all as our guide described the history and names of all the beautiful historic city center landmarks we passed. What I can tell you, though, is that the photographer and Europhile and romantic in you will all appreciate a visit.
So read up a little, then go check it out for yourself and see what all the hype is about. This one, at least, seems to live up.
You missed the fries museum! That’s a shame…beer and chocolate really don’t mix as well as beer and fries.
Don’t worry, I consumed plenty of frites in the Netherlands. Not sure if they’re quite so good as the Belgian original, but I was so full of chocolate by the time I left Bruges and Brussels both that I couldn’t have stomached the frites if I’d tried.
