Welcome to Sri Lanka

Posted by on February 11, 2011

I was pretty sure Sri Lanka was going to be interesting when, on my first full day, I happened upon an elephant getting a bath in somebody's front yard.

This was confirmed when, the next day, I hiked up to the top of a hillside in Kandy and realized that the entire city (the second largest in Sri Lanka) was surrounded by tropical forests.

With interesting temples dotting much of the towns I went to, the island of Sri Lanka indeed did not disappoint.

Hiking to the tops of holy mountains, trekking to temples perched on hillsides over the jungle, and a lot of time spent reading through rainy days.  Sri Lanka was way more fun than I had any right to expect out of a nine day stop between the Emirates and Indonesia.

Lovely Photos! Ever since my Japanese teacher told me about his experiences in Sri Lanka I’ve been dying to go! Looks awesomely beautiful!
