The further you hike into the Gorge, the less buildings and the more panoramas crop up as you round each bend in the trail.

Resting the horses. All through the hike, these guys follow you and ask if you’d like to rent a horse for the rest of the trip. The ringing of the horses’ bells soon becomes part of the background of the walk.

Most people make Tiger Leaping Gorge as a two-day trek, so the end of the first is spent at a guesthouse. I stayed at Halfway House, and the view made my decision worthwhile.

Sunrise on Day 2 of hiking. It gets light a while before, but the moment the first rays pop over the side of the gorge is pretty spectacular all the same.
Waterfall crossing. Apparently during rainier seasons, this part can get a little dodgy.

Finally, the Gorge conquered, waiting on a ferry across the Yangtze river to find a bus to Lijiang.
